This is one of our favourite lines from the “My Life Online” manifesto. In our workshop we remind students of the fact that there are lots of caring adults in today’s world who are genuinely concerned about the way kids are using social media. We let them know that we think that’s warranted. Then, we help them to re-frame the role that social media plays in their life. We share our perspective – social media isn’t a good thing. It’s also not a bad thing. Then, we land on this quote – “Social media is just a thing, that amplifies who you already are.”
The question for everyone then becomes, who do you want to be. Everything is a choice, and we love to remind students that they get to choose everything in their life – including the way they present themselves in their life online.
